Begin with Yahoo:
- Open the Yahoo Canada site.
- Choose Help from the top of the screen.
- Choose Searching Yahoo from the General Issues section.
- Next choose Search Basics.
- Open Intro to Yahoo Search and print out the page that opens up.
- Return to Search Basics and open up What is Advanced Search and print out the page.
Using Boolean Searching Techniques
The University of South Carolina Beaufort Library site has a good page on boolean searches. You can find it by clicking here. Check out Lessons 7 and 8. Print out the pages.
Using the Wildcard (*)
Sometimes you may miss sites because you used the keyword 'begin' and the site with all the information used the work 'beginning'. If you type in the keyword as begin* it will pick up 'begin', 'beginning' and even 'begins'.
Applying What You Learned
For each of the following use advanced search with at least three keywords.
Find out information about Louis Armstrong when he played at the Savoy Ballroom in New York
Find the best rated wines grown in the Loire Valley in France
Check out genealogy sites related to your birth place.
Choose a topic of interest to yourself and try an advanced search
